It is not just a place to pay the bills but a space that I need to inspire & transpire the thoughts in my head to get them down on paper. When we moved to a home half the size of the one we left and an office about the same, I tended to let the space kind of sit and worked around not being inspired nor my thoughts being transpired.

Finally, almost 3 years later, paralysis by analysis was a premise I had to put in the rear view. They say; “that first step you take is the longest stride” and indeed it was! But in that stride the planning began to emerge and transpire. Here is how I turned my non-inspiring, ok space into the Glam Home Office of my dreams!

The Before

Step 1: I knew I always wanted a L-shaped desk that as you see in the before I tried to make happen with two existing desks from my old office, both of which are antiques and I love but they just weren’t getting the job done. So the search began for two desks that would fit together in my space and make the L-configuration. I saw so many Ikea desk hacks but thankfully, a blessing in disguise; their website was not working and I couldn’t order on-line so I had to move on. And of course by moving on, I went to Amazon. I searched and search until the one jumped out at me like a dove floating on the clouds (ok, that’s a little dramatic) but that’s how I felt. The gold tones in the legs, the simpleness of the design, the 55″ of glorious desktop. I was in love.

Gold Sparkle Glam

Step 2: With the glam desks on order, I turned to the flooring. I love my drapes; they are so subtle with hints of blue, yellow and a little gray all on a soothing cream background. The rug, which I consider the anchor had to be just as special. And as all love at first sight, I knew it when I saw it…after an exhausting search but there it was on Wayfair. So perfect!

A Beautiful Floral Anchor

Step 3: I was now on the search for the accessories that not only had a function but added a little Glam! I started with a soothing office chair cover in a soft sea blue color to play off of the curtains and the rug. I found an accessory holder in glam gold and am now on the search for the perfect lamps as I have no overhead lighting, which I hope to rectify someday with a nice chandelier. I also used up some wall space with a Tiffany Blue Filer Holder which will also relieve the clutter from forming on my now 110″ of desk space. 😀

Step 4: Time to put it all together.

First of the L
Add the other part of the L
Add the Desk Habitants

Don’t mind the janky file cabinet, I got some beautiful gold patterned contact paper to take care of that! 🙂

Other view with file cabinet put underneath to save space!
And last but definitely not least surround myself with my favorite inspirations.

I still have a few more finishing touches but I woke up a very happy girl today because with a little Glam aren’t we all still that girl inside! ????

Life is the Market, Let’s Be Prepared Together https://kimberlyboutin.com/life-is-the-market-lets-be-prepared-together/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=life-is-the-market-lets-be-prepared-together Sat, 05 Jan 2019 15:36:33 +0000 https://kimberlyboutin.com/?p=2955 Whether you are new to my blog or have traveled with me these last 3 years, you may know my original concept of “Market Ready” was basically to keep the physical self up to snuff just in case for any reason you had to go back on the “Market”. However, with the collaboration and input of my book editors; family & friends, the concept expanded exponentially to include “Life”—and always being prepared for what it might throw at you.

I recently relocated to a new part of the state where I knew no one professionally. I had a few contacts here and there for employment that manifested to a lot of preparing and interviewing but ultimately not leading to gainful employment. Not my doors. Though I had many transferrable skills, my niche markets in my tenure were basically boiled down to two—banking & fitness with a little more than a sprinkle of the insurance biz mixed in for good measure. I am truly a huge believer if it is not my door, it will not open. It has been proven in my life over and over again—in work & love, that I truly believe in its mystical properties. But I am only human and when a few doors that I wanted to open-didn’t, I started to get down on myself. Did I sacrifice a career life because being a Mother was the only important job to me & always came first…did it/will it cost me future opportunities? I started sliding down the rabbit hole of self-doubt so many of us do…until.

Until the day, my door opened. And as always with your/my door, it was seamless and effortless. Not effortless on the part of preparing and all that jazz. Effortless in the sense of flowing and being able to be yourself right from the get-go. I have had only one other interview like that in my life, many years ago but the feeling is still with me today.

So here I am today, now preparing for the presentation of my career lifetime. This is it, I have 20 years left and want to finally find a career home for myself and my family. I have a great mentor who believe it or not in my Woman Market Ready world, is a man. Forward thinker and appreciative of the whole of a person and what they have to offer beyond tenure tangibles—the value of transferrable life skills. So, I added this slide to my presentation, ready to fill in the bullet points of my value which this Woman will never undervalue again.

We are all a part of lifting each other up in this lifetime. Still love Woman Market Ready’s tagline to this day: Life is the Market, Let’s Be Prepared Together.
